Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah are meaningful life cycle celebrations, marking the transition from childhood to being a full participant in the Jewish community. B’nai celebrations are held during the Shabbat morning worship service, where the young person is invited to lead the congregation in prayer, read from the Torah and Haftarah and deliver a D’var Torah. Preparation for this experience includes enrollment in Temple Beth El religious school and Hebrew School classes as well as private tutoring arranged through the temple.

A meeting of the families of sixth graders is usually held following the High Holy Days in the fall to discuss the b’nei mitzvah program at Temple Beth El, distribute the b’nei mitzvah handbook, and begin assigning dates for the ceremony.
