Cantillation

“Torah Cantillation, Chant…Don’t Say You Can’t!”

This class, taught by Cantor Geoffrey Fine, will begin on Thursday, September 7 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The class is being offered on Thursdays to give people the greatest latitude for taking the rabbi’s class, singing in the choir on Wednesday nights, and taking the cantor’s class on Thursday nights! Over the full year, we will slowly learn the musical language of chanting from Torah. We will learn how cantillation developed, why it is used, and what each cantillation symbol sounds like. You will be chanting by the end of the first class! No singing experience is necessary but knowing some Hebrew is a big plus! At the end of the class, it is my dream that everyone chants a little or a lot from the Torah at our regular Saturday morning Shabbat service on June 2, 2018. It would also be wonderful for students to continue the gift of chanting for the High Holy Days in 2018 or perhaps once or twice a month during 2018-2019. Schedule and sign-up information coming soon. Click here for more information on adult education.
